Lost and Found

When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, “Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.”

—Luke 15:6

Have you ever had to go digging through the lost-and-found box for something you misplaced? Depending on where you are, it can be quite the search! Sometimes everything in the box is so icky and grungy that you sort of don’t want to find the jacket or water bottle or book you lost.

Did you know God digs through the lost and found, searching for us? It doesn’t matter if we’re sitting on top or buried deep in the bottom of the bin. He is going to keep digging and searching until He finds us! Now, we’re not really in a lost-and-found box, of course. But when we wander away from God and start making choices that aren’t the choices He wants us to make, He always brings us back to Him.

The Bible tells of a shepherd who had ninety-nine sheep that were in the field and one that was lost. The shepherd didn’t say, “Oh, well. I have a lot of sheep anyway. That one lost sheep doesn’t matter. I’m going to stay in my field and take a nap.” No, he went in search of that one lost sheep. And when he found it, the shepherd rejoiced.

It’s the same way with Jesus and us. Lost people matter to Jesus. He wants all of us to be a part of His family, and when someone is lost and separated from Him, He will always do His best to find that person and bring them back to Him.
